Sustainable Products and Processes:
Intrexon is working to engineer turf grass that is drought and heat tolerant, significantly reducing the amount of water use.
Intrexon seeks to genetically engineer microbes that are optimized for treatment of aquifers, soil or sludge that contain contaminants such as benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, xylene, phenolic compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), petroleum hydrocarbons or cyanobacteria. Bioremediation can provide an environmentally friendly, socially-acceptable, effective and economically viable solution.
Intrexon seeks to design and construct unique biosensors that can detect food-borne pathogens such as Listeria and Salmonella, as well as environmental pollutants, including pesticides or heavy metals.
